Mental Health Counseling

Depression and anxiety are not just “bad moods.”  They can be serious medical conditions that require medical attention, just like a physical disability.  Anger and relationship issues can be consequences of these conditions, and can affect one’s life in very negative ways.  All of these can be improved through counseling with a mental health professional.  HCC offers counseling sessions with Marriage and Family Therapist interns or trainees under the guidance and supervision of a licensed clinical psychologist.

Symptoms of depression include:

  • Constant feelings of sadness, irritability, or tension
  • Decreased interest or pleasure in usual activities or hobbies
  • Loss of energy, feeling tired despite lack of activity
  • A change in appetite, with significant weight loss or weight gain
  • A change in sleeping patterns, such as difficulty sleeping, early morning awakening, or sleeping too much
  • Restlessness or feeling slowed down
  • Decreased ability to make decisions or concentrate
  • Feelings of worthlessness, hopelessness, or guilt
  • Thoughts of suicide or death
Symptoms of anxiety include:
  • Excessive worry
  • Restlessness
  • Easily tired
  • Trouble concentrating
  • Irritability
  • Muscle tension
  • Sleep problems
Severe phobias or compulsions or post-traumatic stress are also anxiety disorders that can be helped through counseling.
